Joint Decision Making

If divorcing parents cannot work together to make decisions regarding their children, the legal process will allocate decision making authority for education, health care and religious upbringing to one or both parents. However each parent always may make emergency decisions affecting the health or safety of the child and they have the right to make decisions regarding the day-to-day care and control of the child while the child is residing with that parent. Sometimes parents want to allocate decision making for other issues such as whether a child should have a certain haircut, or a tattoo, or a driver’s license.
